About Jared Ellwein

Jared Ellwein is an experienced and successful businessman, business owner, executive, instructor, product manager, IT administrator, and leader.  His experiences cover many industries and environments.  He graduated from Morningside College where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science, with minors in math and physics.  He also received a Master’s in Business Administration from Bellevue University.  These have led to a passion for technology and its application to businesses.

Mr. Ellwein has over twenty-five years of experience spanning across the private, nonprofit, and public sectors.  He has done consulting across many industries, including state and local government, banking, insurance, healthcare, utilities, education, communications, automotive, transportation, retail, agriculture, technology, and manufacturing.  He has worked with small businesses up to Fortune 500 organizations and understands how differently each of those organizations must function to succeed.

While in college, Mr. Ellwein worked at Gateway 2000 computers, in the Technical Support area.  After graduating, he joined MidAmerican Energy Company, where he was a Network Administrator and became the primary Email Administrator for the over 3,000 users of the environment across the state of Iowa.  In 1999, he moved to the Omaha area and became a consultant, doing work for various clients in networking, server administration, email administration, and business intelligence.

Mr. Ellwein has been heavily involved in Business Intelligence and Data Warehousing for over 17 years, doing everything from writing stored procedures and working with data, to writing reports and putting together ad hoc reporting frameworks, to making dashboards and portals.  Business Intelligence and Analytics have been a significant growth area in technology for over a decade, and a lot of changes and new abilities have blossomed during this time.  Mr. Ellwein has been heavily involved in helping organizations implement and improve their environments.  Many of these installations have become critical to the organizations and they way they do their business.  He has also spoken and given presentations at many local and national user groups and conferences, helping others to understand current trends and capabilities and become a thought leader in those areas.

While working for a Business Intelligence and Data Warehousing company based in Omaha, Mr. Ellwein transitioned from working as a consultant, to a product manager, and ultimately to Chief Technology Officer.  He was able to work in many aspects of the business, from presales support and product demonstrations, to every area of operations.  In his role as product manager, he was instrumental in creating and supporting a software product, as well as setting up processes and procedures around development, quality assurance, technical support, installation, and upgrades.  He was also personally involved in the hiring process for the team that worked on the product. He managed the team responsible for over $2.5 million dollars of revenue annually.  In his role as consultant manager, he assigned the right resources to the right projects as they were sold, and helped make sure projects got “unstuck” if issues arose that those assigned to the project could not get past.  In his role as IT director he was responsible for the data center, server hardware, workstations, software, networking, and the telephone system.  He also managed the vendors who were providing various services to the business, including phone, cell phone, and Internet services, among others.

He has worked and volunteered for various nonprofits, including providing IT, network, and audio administration for Lord of Hosts Church, and for Heartland Hope Mission, the largest food pantry in Nebraska.  He has been responsible for much of the technology around the daily operations at the church, including special events and conferences.  He also assists with production of a television program filmed at the church in Omaha, and broadcast around the world on networks such as the Daystar Television Network.

On a personal note, Mr. Ellwein has been married to the love of his life for over 20 years, and has 3 wonderful children, which he enjoys chasing around to their various activities (mostly All-Star Cheer competitions and Taekwondo).  He and his wife join their son in Taekwondo and are going to get first degree black belts soon.
